We will begin a demonstration project for the installation of floating solar power generation using perovskite and other materials in dam reservoirs.
PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President Executive Officer: Osamu OMOTO; hereinafter referred to as "our company") will commence a demonstration project (hereinafter referred to as "this demonstration project") to install floating solar power generation using multiple solar modules, including perovskite, in a dam reservoir in Nagano Prefecture. This demonstration project aims to demonstrate the applicability of floating solar power generation in dam reservoirs with great depth and large water level fluctuations, and to resolve technical challenges related to design, construction, and maintenance. This demonstration project has been selected for the "FY2026 Water Infrastructure Spatial Potential Utilization Type Renewable Energy Technology Demonstration Project" implemented by the Ministry of the Environment.
■ About this demonstration project
As the introduction of renewable energy is required to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, water infrastructure spaces such as dams and reservoirs are expected to have new uses. Leveraging the knowledge our company have cultivated in the social infrastructure field, we will investigate the possibilities of introducing renewable energy using water infrastructure spaces.
| Demonstration and Verification Details | - Overall system design and construction, evaluation of the constructability and maintainability of solar modules and floats, etc. - Comparison of applicability of perovskite, thin-film silicon, and conventional silicon |
| Demonstration Location | Dams in Nagano Prefecture (water utilization dams) |
| Expected Effects | Promotion and expansion of renewable energy, conservation of the water environment, etc. |

If this demonstration project proves applicable to dam reservoirs, it is expected to promote the introduction of renewable energy in inland waters such as multi-purpose dams nationwide, as well as to be applied to underutilized waters such as ports and harbors.
■Future Outlook
Through this demonstration project, we aim to build a renewable energy introduction model that utilizes water infrastructure spaces such as dams. Furthermore, we will use the knowledge gained from this demonstration project to promote the social implementation of floating solar power generation and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society and the improvement of infrastructure value.
