Research Findings Utilizing Environmental Assessment Data for the Hokkaido Shinkansen have been Published in the International Academic Journal "Journal of Crustacean Biology" — Unraveling the Habitat Status of the Endangered Japanese Crayfish —
PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President Executive Officer: Osamu OMOTO) is pleased to announce that the results of a joint research project conducted with Hokkaido University and the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency (JRTT) have been published in the international academic journal "Journal of Crustacean Biology".

Endangered species: Japanese crayfish
This study utilizes environmental assessment data related to the construction of the Hokkaido Shinkansen to clarify the habitat status of the endangered Japanese crayfish.
This study analyzed environmental assessment data (747 locations) related to the construction of the Hokkaido Shinkansen and revealed that the endangered Japanese crayfish was found at 94.4% of the surveyed locations, indicating a high population density in river headwaters where human impact is minimal.
This achievement is an example of utilizing natural environment data accumulated through large-scale infrastructure projects for academic research and biodiversity conservation, demonstrating the potential for future utilization of environmental assessment data.
