■ About the award recipients
Name: Naoyuki ASAO
Affiliation: Global Company, International Railway Projects Department, Project Office 2
Position: General Manager of Section
For nearly 15 years, I have been involved in Pre-FS, FS, detailed design, and construction supervision for railway construction in Southeast and South Asia, contributing to international infrastructure development by utilizing the knowledge and expertise in railway civil engineering structures gained through domestic work. In particular, for the Yangon-Mandalay Railway project in Myanmar, I was consistently responsible for everything from surveys to design and construction supervision of all bridges, waterways, etc., along a 620km section. I promoted the proposal and implementation of seismic design methods based on earthquake hazard maps, while holding repeated consultations with the Japan Japan Society of Civil Engineers, the Japan Seismological Society of Myanmar, and universities. I have received high praise for the fact that hundreds of newly constructed bridges that I designed and supervised remained undamaged even during the 2025 Central Myanmar Earthquake. Furthermore, in addition to contributing to the civil engineering development of urban and long-distance railways in various Asian countries, I have actively engaged in submitting papers to numerous international conferences, giving presentations at conferences, providing technical guidance, and developing human resources, contributing to the enhancement of Japan's international presence in civil engineering technology and the sustainable development of infrastructure.
