Hiroshima Municipal Motomachi High School will implement a disaster prevention education program to cultivate the next generation of "community disaster prevention capabilities."

PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President Executive Officer: Osamu OMOTO) will implement a practical disaster prevention education program for first-year high school students at Hiroshima Municipal Motomachi High School. The program aims to achieve "zero delays in evacuation" during floods and to cultivate students' ability to understand the disaster risks lurking in their own living areas and to judge and declare evacuation actions as "their own responsibility" during disasters. Through lectures and workshops utilizing actual hazard maps, the program aims to spread disaster prevention awareness not only within the school but also to families and the community.
Hiroshima Prefecture has repeatedly experienced large-scale torrential rains and landslides in the past, and each time, the importance of disaster prevention and evacuation has been reaffirmed throughout society. In Hiroshima, which has a topographical characteristic in which mountainous areas and urban areas are close together, disaster risk is right next to daily life, and it is important for the younger generation to acquire the ability to make their own judgments and take action in order to improve the disaster prevention capabilities of the region. This program is an initiative to pass on the lessons learned from past disasters to the next generation without letting them fade away, and to explore practical ways of disaster prevention education that are tailored to the actual situation of the region.
