■15 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the future of Bosai
In March 2026, 15 years has passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. Many restoration and reconstruction efforts have been undertaken in the affected areas. However, the risk of large-scale disasters such as the Nankai Trough earthquake and the Tokyo metropolitan area earthquake remains high. Furthermore, with the progression of global warming, torrential rains, floods, and landslides are becoming more severe both domestically and internationally, and the importance of disaster prevention and mitigation is increasing more than ever. Against this backdrop, the World BOSAI Forum and the Uehiro Disaster Risk Reduction Research Division, International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University will hold a symposium as described below, on the theme of "Looking back on 15 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and how to think about Bosai (disaster prevention) in the future." Based on the agreement related to "Cooperation and collaboration to promote the implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction" concluded in 2017 between the PACIFIC CONSULTANTS and International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University, which has had various contacts with each other during the restoration and reconstruction work after the Great East Japan Earthquake, PACIFIC CONSULTANTS continues to work in collaboration with Tohoku University and provides support as a corporate supporter.
