The Three Companies Start Considering Concrete Measures and Co-creation Structures to Contribute to Realize a Sustainable Tourist Destination in Hakone
Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Director President: Koji HOSHINO), Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Atsushi OMATSU), and PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Tomoyuki SHIGENAGA) announce that they have signed a "Basic Agreement on the Collaboration of Three Companies for the Realization of Advanced Environmental Tourism and Decarbonized Society in Hakone Area" on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022.
In light of the current societal demand for decarbonization, as well as the need to realize a sustainable society through measures such as the circular economy and the utilization of natural capital, awareness of the environmental impact and sustainability of visited areas is also growing in the tourism sector.
The three companies have agreed to combine their respective knowledge and expertise to tackle new social issues, such as creating sustainable tourism destinations and a carbon-free society, in the Hakone area, one of Japan's leading tourist destinations. They will then begin considering specific measures and social implementation, as well as building relationships with co-creation corporate partners both within and outside the area.
The three companies have set a regional value perspective in their strategies as detailed below, and as partners striving to create regional value together, have been considering how to collaborate in order to contribute to the realization of a "society where diverse regional stakeholders can thrive" and a "society where people can live sustainable and prosperous lives" in the area.
Going forward, we will work to create value for the region by supporting the initiatives of local stakeholders (residents, businesses, government, etc.) through businesses that take advantage of the diverse charms of the area.
