Marking the 10th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which caused unprecedented damage primarily in the Tohoku region. We would like to once again offer our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in this disaster, and our sympathies to those who lost irreplaceable family and friends. We would also like to extend our sympathies to all those who were affected by the disaster, especially those who are still suffering the effects of the disaster.
We at PACIFIC CONSULTANTS have been working on numerous damage surveys and various restoration and reconstruction projects since the disaster occurred. Not only we, but also industry, government, and academia related to urban development and infrastructure development have cooperated with each other, establishing new systems and rules that had never been seen before, and as a result of pouring in cutting-edge technology and efforts, the development of many infrastructures is nearing completion. However, there are still areas in Fukushima Prefecture where people cannot return home, and there are still many issues to be addressed, such as how to develop people and industries and bring back bustling towns in the areas where towns have been rebuilt.
As we mark the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have decided to record all of our efforts in the wake of the disaster under the title "Recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake - PACIFIC CONSULTANTS' Track Record and Recommendations for the Future," as well as to compile a proposal on how to respond to disasters and pass it on to future generations. In addition, we have adopted the "Tohoku Declaration," which states that we will continue to contribute to the creation of a resilient nation and region, without forgetting the experience, knowledge, lessons, and spirit gained from this earthquake.
At this turning point of 10 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, we will renew our resolve and work together with Group Affiliated Companies to ensure that true recovery of all affected areas, including the Tohoku region, is realized as soon as possible. Furthermore, we pledge to make full use of the lessons learned from the many sacrifices, to further refine our technology and give it back to society in order to contribute to disaster prevention in the country and to creating a safe and secure life.
