Solar Demonstration Experiment using Perovskite and Other Materials has Begun at the Hishiike Retarding Basin (Nukata District, Aichi Prefecture)
PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Representative Director, President Executive Officer: Osamu OMOTO) has begun a demonstration experiment of solar power generation equipment on the embankment slope of the Hishiike retarding basin, which is currently being developed in Koda-cho, Nukata-gun, Aichi Prefecture, as part of the Yahagi River and Toyokawa River Carbon Neutral Project being promoted by Aichi Prefecture. This demonstration experiment has been adopted as a renewable energy technology demonstration project utilizing the spatial potential of water infrastructure by the Ministry of the Environment.
■About this demonstration project
Aichi Prefecture is taking the lead in the "Yahagi River-Toyokawa River Carbon Neutral Project" that aim to achieve carbon neutrality through comprehensive and cross-sectoral creation of renewable energy through PPP, with the Yahagi River-Toyokawa River basin as a model case, and with water circulation as a keyword. This demonstration project is demonstration experiment for technology development in the space of water infrastructure supported by Aichi Prefecture, and will generate solar power by utilizing some of the slopes of the surrounding embankments of the Hishiike retarding basin, which is currently under construction. We will develop technology to install solar power generation equipment and generate electricity without interfering with the structure and maintenance under the Cabinet Order on Structure of River Management Facilities etc.
■ Overview and purpose of technology development and demonstration experiment
Slope blocks (photovoltaic power generation blocks) with perovskite or other solar cell modules embedded in them are installed on the slopes of embankments, and solar power generation is carried out without interfering with the structure or maintenance, etc. This technology generates solar power while maintaining the function of the embankment, and if its applicability to flood retarding basin embankments is recognized, it may also be applied to the slopes of dams, reservoirs, etc., and is expected to have a major impact on the spread of renewable energy in water infrastructure spaces.

■ Future outlook
Through this demonstration project, we will establish a method to introduce renewable energy into solar power generation at water infrastructure facilities and expand the scope of application to various water infrastructure facilities, such as levees, dam slopes, and reservoir water surfaces across Japan, thereby contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society.
