PCKK to Manage the Entire Operation of Autonomous Buses on the Hachijo Island
PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Osamu OMOTO) has been commissioned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to carry out a "Research and Study Contract on Urban Development with an Eye on an Autonomous Driving Society FY2023". PCKK will be responsible for the overall operation and management of autonomous bus services on Hachijo Island to examine the possibility of using autonomous driving technology to solve transportation issues specific to the region, such as population decline in island areas etc.
The autonomous bus will be operated by Nippon Mobility Inc. (Head office: Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture; President and Representative Director: Chihiro KOMINE) as the vehicle provider, with PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. in charge of operation management. The bus will run on a route that allows passengers to connect between the airport and port of Shinminato (Sokodo) Port, Hachijojima Airport, and Yaene Port.
From Saturday, Oct. 14 to Friday, Oct. 27, 2023
However, the service will be suspended on Sunday, Oct. 15, Thursday, Oct. 19, Sunday, Oct. 22, and Thursday, Oct. 26.
