Received the FY2021 (JPN) Tanaka Prize (Works Prize) of Japan Society of Civil Engineers
The "Tamagawa Sky Bridge" (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture), which PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Tomoyuki SHIGENAGA) conducted detailed structural analysis, has been awarded the FY2021 (JPN) Tanaka Prize (Works Prize) of Japan Society of Civil Engineers by the Japan Society Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
The Tamagawa Sky Bridge was constructed as a Haneda Liaison Road connecting the King Sky Front and Haneda Global Wings in Kawasaki City (tentative name), and was built over the Tama River as infrastructure to strengthen the link between the two areas and support the formation of a strategic growth base.
Of the approximately 840m road length, the Tama River crossing section has a 602m long steel 3-span continuous steel slab box girder composite ramen bridge, which is the longest composite ramen bridge in Japan.
The main girder cross-sectional shape was designed to harmonize with the horizontal landscape by securing a 3m overhang length to reduce the oppressive feeling of the girder sides, reducing the apparent width of the fascia line, and creating a shape that is also excellent for drainage.
The colors were selected based on harmony with the surrounding environment, and after conducting a color survey and confirming the environmental colors, 5PB7.5/0.5, which satisfies the color range indicated in the related upper-level plans, etc. and achieves a balance between blending with the background scenery of the sky and water surface, which account for the majority of the environmental colors, and the presence of the bridge as a stand-alone structure, was selected as the color range. The bridge location was selected based on a field inspection using 80cm x 90cm painted panels.
The bridge is located at the mouth of the Tama River (0.8Kp), where a tidal flat at the mouth of the river extends, and is designated as an "Ecosystem Preservation Space" in the functional space category in the Tama River Environmental Management Plan.
