Wineer of the 2020 Tanaka Award (Work Category) of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers
We are pleased to announce that "Naka Bridge" (Minami-sanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture), designed by ou JV with Kengo Kuma & Associates, has been awarded the 2020 Tanaka Prize (Work Category) from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
Nakabashi Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that provides access to Minamisanriku-cho Earthquake Reconstruction Memorial Park, which was built as a place of repose for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and is positioned as a symbol of the reconstruction of Minamisanriku Town.
Based on the master design by Kengo Kuma & Associates, the design was refined through repeated structural analysis, and the final design was a steel simple pipe truss bridge with a length of 80.6m. When viewed from above, it has an X-shape, and when viewed from the side, it has a dynamic lens-shaped three-dimensional shape, and it has a double deck structure that makes the most of the height of the structure. In addition, cedar wood from Minamisanriku Town is used for the Wood Gate, which serves as both the deck and the balustrade support pillars, making this a bridge that leaves a strong impression on visitors to the area.
