Purpose | In designing the retarding basin, we considered the overflow levee shape and overflow levee energy dissipation works that would satisfy the planned diversion volume from the river channel to the retarding basin. |

Experimental Scene
The approximately 6km-long Kumozu River that runs through Mie Prefecture and the proposed retarding basin were reproduced in a 1/80-scale hydraulic experiment model. The amount of water diverted from the river channel to the retarding basin (overflow amount) was measured, and the height and length of the overflow levee that would satisfy the planned amount of water diverted was considered. In addition, the flow velocity and direction of the overflow water in the retarding basin were measured, and the installation range and structure of the energy dissipation works were considered.
