Achievements Introduction

Study of river confluence and branching

Achievement Summary

Categories
Hydraulic Model Experiment
Purpose Consideration was given to the effect of lowering the water level during floods by using a diversion channel that cuts the bend in the river channel. Consideration was given to the shape of the diversion facility for the diversion channel.
Facilities available Outdoor Experiment Site
period 2007 (Heisei 19) - 2010 (Heisei 22)
Client Kyushu Regional Development Bureau
Eligible facilities Shigome Diversion Channel of the Kawauchi River

Experimental Scene

The scope of the model reproduction was the diversion channel and several kilometers of the river channel upstream and downstream. The diversion channel and river channel based on the basic design were reproduced in a 1/70 scale model.
The design flood discharge and the maximum historical discharge were passed through the river to examine the effect of lowering the water level in the diversion channel and the shape of the diversion facility from the river channel to the diversion channel.
